  • Majority support for discounted housing Monday, June 06, 2011

A survey undertaken to determine attitudes to housing in Stratford upon Avon has shown a significant majority in favour of discounted homes for local people. Responding to the question "Would you support a housing scheme that offered discounted homes for local people?" 75.2% of respondents replied "Yes", whilst 13.8% responded “No”. 11% were unsure or did not want to comment.

Responding to the survey, a spokesman for developers Bloor Homes and Hallam Land Management said, “We know that there is a looming housing shortage in Stratford, which is one logical outcome of the older generation living for longer. The people struggling to find homes locally are not an abstract concept - they are the sons and daughters of local people, who at the moment need to move away from the area because they cannot find a home here.

"As part of our plans to build homes to the West of Stratford, we have included a discount scheme for local people so that more young families can remain in the area”.
